There should be an objective behind every sketch.

That's why before starting a sketch I ask myself, "What am I trying to accomplish?"

Am I trying to solve a problem?

Communicate a solution?

Create excitement?

Elicit feedback?

Get buy-in?

The objective dictates what I sketch and how I sketch it.

The views, the fidelity, the level of detail, the composition, and the focus are all determined by what I am trying to accomplish.

Define your objective from the start and you'll get to a more effective sketch quicker.
